You Only Live Once was made via layering 'single shot' applications of medium- I built up the layers one by one, usually with only one material or a single colour at a time, keeping the canvas in a fixed spot on my studio floor over one month  (February 2025)- a month where I was fascinated (for some reason) by the colours citrine and chartreuse...
A colour that has since eluded recreation in any work that followed, despite my best efforts.

The movement in this piece was achieved by propping the canvas up in such a way that it was slightly less than level. I did this so that the medium would flow from one point at the right edge of the canvas to another (on the left) but at a pace that allowed it to spread across and saturate the surface (with a little help from me & my brushes).

For me, this work speaks to the lazy heat of late WA Summer: the desire to amble, take afternoon snoozes or tenderly float upon the ocean's surface just as the sun is setting.
