Fred began painting early. His mother was a watercolour artist who encouraged creativity and a love of making. Early influences also came from the work of Albert Namatjira and his family.

Life on Country has shaped his practice. Years spent in the bush, near fire, and working as a prospector and gem miner formed his connection to land and patterns.

Through his Yamatji Nanda heritage, Fred’s work follows the lines of the Elders before him. He uses story and mark to keep culture strong, hand to hand.
