This artwork tells the story of a place where people, water, and Country have always been connected.
At the heart of the painting is a significant meeting place. It is where families gather to share stories, teach younger generations, celebrate culture, and strengthen kinship. From this place, knowledge flows across Country, connecting people to one another and to their ancestors.
The winding waterways represent the lifeblood of the land. They carry fresh water through the landscape, nourishing the plants, animals, and people who have cared for this Country for countless generations. Along these waterways, families travelled, hunted, gathered bush foods, and found places to rest.
The scattered rock formations tell of ancient landscapes shaped over thousands of years. They remind us that every stone, hill, and waterhole holds memories of those who walked before us. The smaller meeting circles represent camps where families stopped during their journeys, each one filled with conversation, laughter, and the passing down of cultural knowledge.
The rich green background symbolises healthy Country after rain, full of life and renewal. The radiating lines flowing from the central gathering place show the energy, stories, and responsibilities that spread across the land, connecting every part of Country together.
This painting celebrates the enduring relationship between people and Country, reminding us that no matter how far we travel, our stories always lead us home. The waterways continue to carry life, the gathering places continue to bring people together, and the strength of culture continues to flow through every generation.
