An homage to the visionary architect, Iwan Iwanoff and his stunning creation Murphy House in City Beach, Western Australia.
"This piece represents the artistic journey that has led me to embrace new challenges and explore unfamiliar territories. In homage to the visionary architect Iwan Iwanoff, I have stepped outside my comfort zone of digital art, taking on an entirely new process and medium to create a sculpture depicting one of the iconic walls from his architectural masterpieces.
As a lifelong Perth resident, Iwanoff's legacy holds a profound significance for me. Driving past his homes on weekend drives fills me with a sense of connection to his work that I rarely feel for other, even more quintessentially "Perth" buildings.
The incorporation of black acrylic with speckled gold leaf adds depth and contrast to the sculpture. Beyond mimicking sunlight hitting a hidden window; it reflects the juxtaposition between the often brutalist exteriors and the elegant beauty of his homes' interiors, capturing a sense of Iwanoff's architectural language.
The creative journey didn't end with the completion of the sculpture. With access to a professional photo studio, I meticulously controlled the lighting, emulating sunlight casting shadows across the form while photographically capturing the piece in preparation for fine art print production. This process brought me full circle, ending up with a piece of digital art to accompany the finished sculpture.
This piece stands as a celebration of Perth's architectural richness and serves as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Iwan Iwanoff."
