Original Acrylic and Ochre on Canvas
Artwork size: 295 x 400 mm
Outer frame size: 325 x 430 mm
Stretched and framed in an oak floating frame.
These two circles are for painting stories where there are men and women, I have not found anything like this in paintings and petroglyphs here in the west, that doesn't mean they are not here of course, or other shapes that represent the gender of a person.
The painting of two circles with wide borders is from somewhere in the centre of Australia and that goes back to a famous Aboriginal stockman called Bill Harney or Bilarny. The pale brown is natural ochre from the Murchison, the white centre with black border is female and red centre with black border is male. Interestingly, science uses symbols very close to what these people used.
This piece is a part of the 2026 NAIDOC Exhibition.
