In this painting, the flowing lines and blossoming shapes tell the story of mothers and daughters - their connections, their strength, and the knowledge passed down through generations.
The large white symbols at the heart of the canvas represent grandmothers, mothers and daughters - each one a matriarchal figure rooted in Country. Their shapes are strong, grounded in circular repetition, echoing the cycles of life, seasons, and womanhood. Surrounding them are smaller circles and starburts, symbolising the stories, wisdom, and laughter shared between women as they sit together, yarning beneath the sun and stars.
The pinks, burgundies, and earthy browns represent the nurturing warmth of women's energy, while the white dots throughout show the journeys of daughters as they learn from their mothers and aunties, weaving their own paths but always connected by invisible threads of love, culture, and resilience.
The black winding path flowing through the painting is the river of ancestral knowledge. It flows from the top to the bottom, passing through each generation, reminding us that while the faces may change, the stories and strength remain. Each ripple in the river is a memory, a lesson, a teaching - gently handed down from one hand to another.
This painting celebrates the sacred connection between mothers and daughters - a bond that is unbroken, stretching from the Dreaming to today and beyond. It's visual songline, honouring the roles women play in guiding, protecting, and empowering future generations to walk proudly in their culture.
