Original Acrylic on Canvas
Artwork size: 505 x 400 mm
Outer frame size: 535 x 430 mm
Stretched and framed in an oak floating frame.
This painting started life as a study and is my first painting after a hiatus of 40 years. I was made aware of controlled fire clearing to promote new plant growth when i was in my teens by our next-door neighnour who was a stolen generation Aboriginal from the Northern Territory.
The location is from memory of a place south of Cue, where a small community of Aboriginal people lived during the depression and until the 1940's. When one stands on a small breakaway and look out to the flat land to the south you can see the pathways outlined by black laterite rocks. I was told by an old prospector that there was a gnamma hole out there also, which makes sense but I have not found it yet.
This piece is a part of the 2026 NAIDOC Exhibition.
